Steps 1–2: Cycle begins and approach selected

The process starts with the menstrual cycle. A choice is made between natural-cycle IUI (monitoring the natural ovulation) or stimulated-cycle IUI (super ovulation with medications).

Steps 3–5: Monitoring and trigger

Follicular monitoring by ultrasonography tracks egg development. In natural cycles, monitoring starts around day 9–10 of the period until the follicle ruptures — IUI is done on the rupture day. In stimulated cycles, tablets or hormonal injections begin on day 2 of the period; when follicles reach optimal size, an HCG injection matures the eggs, and IUI follows ~36 hours after.

Steps 6–8: Sperm preparation and insemination

On the IUI day, the husband provides a sperm sample. The andrologist prepares motile sperm — washing and concentrating the healthiest sperm. Using a very fine catheter, the prepared sperm is placed directly inside the uterus, timed to ovulation.

Steps 9–10: Waiting and pregnancy test

After IUI, the two-week wait begins. A pregnancy test is done approximately 15 days after the procedure to confirm whether conception occurred.
