HPV Awareness in Nepal

Cervical cancer is the number one cancer among women in Nepal. Many of these cases could be prevented by early HPV vaccination. Unfortunately, awareness remains low.

  • Vaccine Availability: While the government has begun pilot programs, the 9-valent vaccine (Gardasil 9) is primarily available in private clinics in Kathmandu.
  • Gender Gap: We strongly encourage men to get vaccinated to prevent genital warts and penile cancer, not just for women's protection.

What is HPV?

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a group of more than 200 related viruses. Some types cause genital warts, while high-risk types can lead to cancers of the cervix, anus, and throat. It is the most common STI globally.

Gardasil 9: Total Protection

Gardasil 9 protects against nine types of HPV (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58). These types are responsible for 90% of genital warts and the majority of HPV-related cancers.

Why Choice Gardasil 9 over others?

  • Provides the widest protection available today.
  • Prevents both warts AND cancers.
  • Approved for both males and females.

Safety & Side Effects

The most common side effect is brief soreness at the injection site. Serious allergic reactions are extremely rare. There is NO evidence that the vaccine causes fertility issues; in fact, it protects future fertility by preventing cervical procedures needed to treat pre-cancer.

Important notice: The vaccine prevents future infections. It does not cure an existing HPV infection, which is why vaccination before becoming sexually active is ideal.
