IUI Treatment in Nepal
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is a fertility treatment where motile sperm — prepared by an andrologist — is placed directly inside the uterus using a very fine catheter, timed to ovulation in a natural or stimulated cycle.
What is IUI?
IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) involves the preparation of motile sperm by an andrologist, which is directly placed inside the uterus using a very fine catheter. The sperm is deposited after the release of an egg (or eggs) is determined — during either a natural or a stimulated cycle. Conception can then follow naturally inside the body.
It is a simpler, less invasive fertility option than IVF — often tried first for several conditions.
How IUI works
Follicular monitoring tracks egg development. When the follicle is ready, sperm is prepared (washed and concentrated) by an andrologist and placed directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation — bypassing the cervix and giving sperm a head start.
Success rate
The reported success rate is up to 20% per cycle, and up to 30% per attempt in the best cases where sperm, egg, and uterine quality are ensured. At least 3–4 cycles are recommended before considering other options.
Timeline and visits
One IUI cycle takes about 15 days from the start of the period to sperm insemination. The total number of visits ranges from 2 to 5 — IUI is a day-care procedure. The husband provides the sperm sample on the day of IUI. Pregnancy testing is done about 15 days after the procedure.
