Vaccines for Hajj and Umrah Travel
Saudi Arabia mandates specific vaccinations for all Hajj and Umrah pilgrims — the quadrivalent meningococcal ACWY vaccine is compulsory, with additional recommended vaccines for the pilgrimage.
Mandatory: meningococcal ACWY
Every Hajj and Umrah pilgrim must show proof of quadrivalent meningococcal (A, C, W, Y) vaccination — it is a visa and entry requirement, not optional. The certificate must be issued at least 10 days before arrival and within the vaccine's validity period.
Certificates for polysaccharide vaccines are valid for 3 years; conjugate vaccines have a longer validity window per current Saudi requirements — we confirm the applicable period when vaccinating.
Recommended additional vaccines
Seasonal flu vaccine: strongly recommended for all pilgrims (crowded conditions spread respiratory illness). Pneumococcal: recommended for pilgrims 65+ or with chronic disease. COVID-19: check current Saudi requirements. Routine boosters (tetanus) should be current.
Timing and documentation
Vaccinate at least 10 days before departure — the meningococcal certificate must be valid on arrival. Bring your passport for ICVP documentation. Our Kathmandu clinic handles the complete Hajj vaccination and certification process.
Health advice beyond vaccines
Hajj involves heat, crowds, and physical exertion — discuss heat management, hydration, and any chronic conditions with our team. Elderly and chronically ill pilgrims need individualized planning.
