HPV Vaccine in Nepal
HPV vaccination — a cancer-prevention vaccine protecting against the human papillomavirus strains that cause ~90% of cervical cancers, plus genital warts and other HPV cancers.
A vaccine that prevents cancer
HPV causes nearly all cervical cancers plus anal, penile, throat cancers and genital warts. The vaccine prevents the high-risk strains — most effective when given before exposure, ideally at ages 9–14.
Who can get it
Ideal at 9–14 years (2 doses). Catch-up through age 26; adults 27–45 can benefit by shared decision. Both girls and boys should be vaccinated. Nepal includes it in the national program for girls.
Schedule
Ages 9–14: 2 doses (0 and 6–12 months). Age 15+: 3 doses (0, 1–2, 6 months).
