The NIPT Procedure — Step by Step
The NIPT procedure is remarkably simple: a single maternal blood draw, no fasting, no risk to the baby. Here is exactly what happens from booking to report.
Step 1 — Booking and eligibility check
Contact us to book — walk-in, home collection, or hotel collection are all available in Kathmandu. We confirm you are at least 10 weeks pregnant and discuss which panel (standard or extended) fits your situation. A recent ultrasound for dating is recommended.
Step 2 — Sample collection
A trained professional draws a single tube of blood from your arm — identical to any routine blood test. No fasting is required, and there is no instrument anywhere near the baby. The whole collection takes under five minutes.
Step 3 — Laboratory processing
Your sample travels under controlled conditions to an accredited reference laboratory. There, cell-free DNA is extracted and sequenced, and sophisticated analysis compares chromosome dosage to detect trisomies 21, 18, and 13 (plus optional additional conditions).
Step 4 — Confidential reporting
Results return within 7–14 days and are shared with you confidentially. We explain the report, answer questions, and arrange next steps — whether reassurance and routine care or confirmatory diagnostic testing.
